Born and raised in Alaska, Debbie West has always approached life with adventurous curiosity, determination, and a talent for turning opportunity into reality. Her real estate journey began at just 19 years old when she purchased her first three lots overlooking Eagle River, Alaska — negotiating creative terms long before she ever considered a career in real estate. (Her ex-husband still happily lives on that property in the custom home they built together) 🙂
By the age of 23, Debbie had founded her own accounting company, helping small businesses with bookkeeping and fraud detection while continuing to build a portfolio of residential investment properties throughout the Anchorage area. But business was only part of the adventure. Debbie’s passions have included ski racing, skydiving, scuba diving, partner dancing, fishing, 4×4 exploration, and becoming a licensed pilot at age 30. She even participated in setting multiple skydiving world records — some of which still stand today — and has flown her Cessna 182 throughout North America and into the Caribbean.
As her investments expanded to include airplane hangars in Denver and mountain properties near Keystone, Debbie eventually discovered the breathtaking Southern Pacific coast of Costa Rica during a visit to Dominical in 2004. One investment quickly turned into many, and before long she realized the only sensible solution was to move to Costa Rica to “keep an eye on things.”
That decision led Debbie to become a pioneer in the Costa Rican real estate market, founding the southernmost REMAX franchise in Costa Rica and helping grow the brand during its early years in the country. With more than 50 personal real estate transactions of her own, Debbie brings firsthand investment experience, sharp negotiation skills, and a deep understanding of both the emotional and financial sides of buying property abroad.
Today, Debbie is known not only for her expertise and integrity, but also for her energy, humor, and genuine love for helping others create the life they’ve been dreaming about in Costa Rica. She is the proud mother of two sons, grandmother of two grandsons and one granddaughter, and happily married. (And yes… she still gets along with the ex-husband.)
